Collone Young Farmers Club Celebrate 80 Years and Raise A Staggering £10,750 for Brainwaves NI
A fantastic 80th year fundraising effort
Congratualtions to Collone Young Farmers Club on their 80th Anniversary fundraising efforts…
On Monday 28th April, Collone Young Farmers Club welcomed Steve and Sylvia from Brainwaves NI and presented a cheque for £10,750. This amount was raised during the club’s 80th Anniversary year, when a number of fundraising events were held.
The club members began fundraising at last years Armagh show where they provided refreshments to the public and ran numerous activities in their stand at the show.
Members took on the enormous challenge of cycling 80 miles on Sunday the 11th of August to celebrate 80 years of Collone YFC. 25 members took part on the day, starting with with breakfast at the hall, which was kindly donated by the McWhirter family and ended the day with pizza provided by Elaine and Geoff. The cycle was very tough but the participants continued on and were a credit to the club
They then held their annual tractor run on Sunday the 25th of August. 109 tractors lined the roads around Collone and despite the weather a great day was had by everyone
Their annual harvest service was held on Sunday the 3rd of November, where they had a great turnout from members and their families and the guest speaker was Reverend Kenny Hanna.
In November they finished their fundraising for the year at their 80th anniversary dinner in the Belmont House Hotel in Banbridge. They had a great evening with a hugely successful charity auction and raffle. It was great to have Sylvia and Gillian in attendance as the representatives from Brainwaves NI.
The £10,750 raised for Brainwaves NI will go to help those who are affected by Brain Tumours in Northern Ireland
The Collone Young Farmers Club Committee would like to thank all their members, their families, the businesses who donated towards the auction and raffle and anyone who donated towards any of the past year’s fundraising events as without your contributions this would not have been possible.
What an amazing way to finish an 80th anniversary year!

About Brainwaves NI
Brainwaves NI is Northern Ireland’s only volunteer led brain tumour research and support charity. We aim to provide support for brain tumour patients, their families, and carers, raise awareness of brain tumours and fund vital research at the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research, Queen’s University Belfast, to help find a cure for brain cancer.
As a registered charity Brainwaves NI has been providing support services to children and adults with brain tumours since 1994. The charity is managed by an annually elected committee of volunteers dedicated to the belief that together we can make a difference to the lives of those affected by a brain tumour.
Brainwaves NI is both a research and support charity. Research is fundamental to finding a cure for brain tumours. We have a strong relationship with the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research, Queen’s University, Belfast. Over the last number of years we have provided over £500,000 funding towards that vital research.
The startling statistics are that more children and adults under 40 die of a brain tumour than any other cancer. Yet the national spend on research is around 1%.
We organise activities which offer social and emotional support. These activities provide an opportunity for families to come together to share their experiences and support one another.
We rely totally on donations and encourage you to become a member/supporter to help us help you.
