Book Launch at First Armagh Marks 350 Years of Church History

A new history of First Presbyterian Church, Armagh, ‘Meeting among the Spires’, will be launched on Monday 9th March at 7.30pm in First Armagh Presbyterian Church.
The launch will be conducted by Sean Barden of Armagh County Museum, while Paul Lutton, who assisted with editing the book, will discuss its origins and writing with author, Tony Davidson. The event is open to the public and refreshments will be served afterwards.
Additional launches will take place in Dungannon Presbyterian Church on Monday 16th March at 7.30pm, with Mary McGinty, Chair of Donaghmore Historical Society, as speaker, and in the Gamble Library at Union Theological College, Belfast, on Tuesday 24th March at 7.30pm, where the book will be introduced by Dr Matthew Houston.
Written by Tony Davidson, Minister of First Armagh from 1994 until 2022, the book traces the life and witness of the congregation over its 350 year history. Davidson is currently Chair of the Presbyterian Historical Society of Ireland and Vice Chair of the Donaghmore Historical Society.
The volume includes profiles of all 20 ministers who have served First Armagh, alongside more than 50 articles exploring people, places and institutions associated with the congregation. Figures featured include Francis Hutcheson, father of the Scottish Enlightenment; William McCrum, inventor of the penalty kick; and Susan McKennell, missionary to Nigeria.
Printed by Trimprint and designed by Moy native David Acheson, the illustrated book runs to 288 pages and is priced at £20.00
