Surveying Vernacular Buildings: an introduction.
Join Dr Colm Donnelly from the Centre of Community Archaeology (CCA) at Queen’s University Belfast for this practical workshop which will provide an introduction to 'reading', understanding and surveying vernacular buildings.
During the day you will learn about vernacular building construction and how to draw a scaled plan of such buildings.
We will be surveying a vernacular cottage, dating to the 1800s, located outside Loughgall on the Ballygasson Road. Like a lot of such buildings, the cottage is in poor shape and this survey will ensure that a permanent record is created of it before the building further detoriates.
Places are free but limited - Book Here
PLEASE NOTE: This event will not be suitable for people with mobility issues due to the location of the cottage on a steep slope and lack of access path.
This event is being held as part of the CCA'S Community Archaeology programme.
