European Heritage Open Days - St Matthew's Church of Ireland
St Matthew's Church of Ireland will be open:
Saturday 14 September 2024, 10.00am - 4.00pm
St. Matthew's Church is situated on the Square in the centre of picturesque Richhill. Originally a market house, this building was converted into a church in 1837. The Transept and Chancel were added in 1862. Then in 1912, Messrs A.C. Simpson of Armagh City built the church's impressive 62ft tower, which is the visible feature of the St Matthew's and the village of Richhill. A chiming clock, a familiar sound to everyone who calls Richhill home, was added to the tower in 1959. St. Matthew's also has a number of beautiful stained glass windows located throughout the church. On Saturday 14th September, there will be volunteers on hand in St. Matthew's to tell people about the church's fascinating history and point out the must-see items in the church.
The village of Richhill also has a number of other notable buildings, including Richhill Castle.
Also on Saturday 14th September, there will be an auction of various items in the Colthurst Hall, St. Matthew's parish hall, where visitors to the village will be made very welcome. Tea, coffee and delicious local traybakes will be available.
