European Heritage Open Days - St James' Church of Ireland
St James' Church of Ireland will be open:
Saturday 14 September 2024, 9.30am - 5.00pm
Sunday 15th September 2024, 10.00am - 7.00pm
St James' Church of Ireland is a Grade 1 listed building some 200 years old and (together with the adjacent rectory and church hall) occupies a magnificent setting overlooking the historic village of Moy Co Tyrone (NI).
The exterior of the church has recently been restored ensuring the fabric of the church is secured into the future - this work has attracted many compliments enhancing the beauty of the church.
The main features inside the church include a number of stained glass windows. During the work (referred to above) a number of these windows were removed and expertly restored by specialist contract. Many have remarked how stunning they look - particularly as the sun's rays shine through during morning worship. Thanks to the efforts and generosity of the congregation a further contract is planned to enhance the inside of the church.
During the European Heritage Open Days the church will be open during specified hours - however it should be noted that morning worship will be in progress from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm and evening worship from 6.00pm to 7.00pm on Sunday 15th.
At other times members of the congregation will be on site to welcome visitors and literature will be available to allow visitors to study and enjoy the history and beauty of the church through a self-guided tour .A recent book outlining the history of the church will also be available for sale.
At this time modern facilities are somewhat lacking in the church itself but are available in the adjacent church hall.
The rector and members of the church look forward to welcoming visitors and trust they will enjoy their time with us.
