A tremendous service of praise and worship at the “Big Sing” in Armagh Orange Hall this evening, organised by Armagh District LOL No 5. A truly uplifting evening of congregational singing of many well known hymns, with the Armagh & Keady Districts Choir and the Hawthorne Sisters. The hall was packed to capacity. The senior County Grand Lodge Officers were privileged to attend - and pass on many congratulations and well done to the host District.

DEDICATION OF MEMORIAL PLAQUE: This afternoon, during Choral Evensong at St Patrick’s Church Of Ireland Cathedral, a new memorial plaque was unveiled and dedicated on the gates of The Royal Irish Fusiliers Chapel within the Cathedral.

It was on St Patrick’s Day 1950 that The Royal Irish Fusiliers Chapel was dedicated by the then Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Revd John Gregg. Field Marshal Sir Gerald Templer inspired the creation of the Chapel which was designed as a place of prayer for the Regiment and where memorials honouring those who had served and paid the supreme sacrifice in war and conflict would be preserved, as well as being the place where the Regimental Colours would be laid up. Seventy five years after the dedication we were delighted that the Field Marshal’s son, Lieutenant Colonel Miles Templer, was present at the service today to unveil the memorial plaque and the current Archbishop of Armagh dedicated it “To the Glory of God and in thankful remembrance of Field Marshall Sir Gerald Templer.

CATHEDRAL’S FIRST GIRL CHORISTERS: St Patrick’s Church Of Ireland Cahtedral was delighted today to welcome, during Choral Evensong, the first girl choristers in the history of the Cathedral. As they take their places in the Choir Stalls the church community hope and pray they will each find blessing and fulfilment as they sing to God’s praise and glory now and in the years to come.

On Friday night 7th November, at the 13th annual Social Enterprise Northern Ireland Awards, incredABLE won BIG! In front of over 600 guests at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Belfast, they were thrilled to receive the prestigious ‘Social Enterprise Of The Year (Over £500k) ’ award for their achievements in this sector.

incredABLE celebrated Halloween with a Spectacular Spooktacular inclusive disco at Armagh City Hotel! DJ Sammy raised the roof...it was certainly a full haunted house! Check out the scary staff members looking frightful (picture below) at the incredABLE Black Moon! Can you guess who is who? And don’t forget the Christmas disco – the final Black Moon Armagh disco of 2025 – it will take place in the Fringe Lounge of Armagh City Hotel on Thursday, 4th December! It really is a brilliant night out...make sure to put it into your diaries…

Well done to 2011 Loughgall Youth players Aidan and Eoghan who both started for Northern Ireland U15s in today’s 2-0 win over Latvia to wrap up their 3 match tour. On 23rd October the squad beat Bosnia 1-0 and lost, in the last minute, their fixture against Slovenia. Well done boys.

Tonight, Armagh Royal British Legion held its Annual General Meeting and officially launched their Annual Poppy Appeal.

A huge thank you was extended to Mrs Wilson and the Wilson Family, as well as George Cunningham - some of the dedicated Poppy Sellers over the years. Their continued commitment and support mean so much, and simply couldn’t be done without.

The Committee were also delighted to welcome Cllr Scott Armstrong and Cllr & Veterans Champion Lavelle McIlwrath, who kindly became the first to donate to this year’s Armagh Poppy Appeal.

Tuesday evening saw the Marquee at Richhill Castle come alive with the sights, sounds, and irresistible aromas of culinary creativity as the Food Heartland Chefs’ Demonstrations took centre stage at the Richhill Apple Harvest Fayre.

The event was a true celebration of local talent and seasonal produce, with a stellar line-up of chefs including Mervyn Steenson (Groucho’s On The Square), John Whyte (Armagh City Hotel), John Mathers (Newforge House), and Dean Coppard.

Each chef brought their own flair to the Food Heartland mobile kitchen, delighting the packed audience with inspiring dishes that showcased the best of our region’s harvest.

With a warm atmosphere, enthusiastic crowd, and plenty of flavour, the evening was a fantastic start to the week-long Richhill Apple Harvest Fayre running until 26th October.

Revd Canon Malcolm Kingston (Rector St Mark’s, Armagh) would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported the ‘50 for 50’ challenge he undertook back in September. First Presbyterian Church, Armagh want to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated to the Food Bank at their Harvest Service last Sunday. Thanks to your generosity, 253.6kg of food was delivered this week by Rev Thomas Moore, Leslie Crowe, and Renate Kyle.

The Armagh Food Bank continues to be a lifeline for those facing hardship in our community, offering emergency food parcels and a helping hand when it’s needed most.

We also give thanks for our elders James Boyd and Sadie Somerville, who volunteer faithfully, and for the many others who serve there, making a real difference in so many lives.

While Armagh Robinson Library is hosting the exhibition of ‘Icons on Ammo Boxes’, the icons will be moved to St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral on Sunday 19 October to be viewed before and after services and then returned to the Library. The exhibition has been created by Kyiv artists Sonya Atlantova and Oleksandr Klymenko.

The icons have been painted on fragments of ammunition boxes from the war zones in Ukraine. They serve as silent war witnesses and symbols of victory of life over death. The project is also to help raise funds to supply the frontline medical care in Ukraine, and so the icons are on sale.

One of the icons, showing The Vernicle (The Saviour), has been suggested as a possible gift to the Cathedral so that a part of this significant exhibition would find its long term home in the City of Armagh. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Cathedral has displayed a Ukrainian flag and kept a candle burning when the Cathedral is open, along with copies of the New Testament, Bible readings and prayers in Ukrainian. The lit candle represents the light of hope - the hope that peace, healing and reconciliation will soon be a reality in that war torn land. The proposal is to display the icon permanently next to the flag and candle if funds can be found.

The amount to raise to purchase the icon is £1,500. If people wish to donate towards that amount, then please donate by placing cash inside the specific envelopes into the donation box. The box will be moved from the Cathedral to the Library and will remain there until the end of the exhibition. The amount raised will hopefully be enough to buy the icon, and all the money donated will ultimately be used for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Such a beautiful atmosphere of prayer and reflection as we joined praying for the school community and our wider faith community during this Jubilee Year.

On Friday night, at the 13th annual Social Enterprise Northern Ireland Awards, incredABLE won BIG! In front of over 600 guests at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Belfast, they were thrilled to receive the prestigious ‘Social Enterprise Of The Year (Over £500k) ’ award for their achievements in this sector.

It has been an extremely busy time for incredABLE!

In addition to the many projects and services they deliver to hundreds of people with a learning/intellectual disability and/or autism in the Southern Trust area, they opened two new social enterprises!

The local charity’s fourth social enterprise cafe open its doors during the summer when we brought their incredABLE food to Newry, Co Down. Cafe incredABLE @ Newry Leisure Centre is their first cafe in the Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area. Open seven days a week, it has received an extremely positive response from the public since the first cup of coffee was served at the beginning of August.

incredABLE tendered for the new cafe space as a result of the continued success of our three other cafes – in Banbridge, Craigavon and Lurgan – and are delighted to bring our mission of facilitating meaningful opportunities in the catering industry for people with a learning disability and/or autism to a new area.

Prior to this, in June, incredABLE revealed to the public that they had taken over the responsibility of operating the former Armagh City Youth Hostel, continuing its legacy as a welcoming, group-focused accommodation hub in the heart of the Cathedral City.

Renaming the venue to ‘Stay incredABLE’ Armagh City, the modern, 62-bed self-catering group accommodation facility, provides quality, affordable accommodation all year round for charities, schools, churches, sports teams and youth organisations.

This new location is in addition to the extremely popular ‘Stay incredABLE’ The Mournes, a 26-bed self-catering residential facility located near the Silent Valley Reservoir. This means that incredABLE now has the capacity to provide affordable accommodation to up to 88 people every night!

The success of any social enterprise, of course, is down to the amazing people behind it! On winning the award, incredABLE’s CEO Nigel Hampton said that the award was “a whole team achievement!”

“I felt both humbled and honoured to receive the prestigious ‘Social Enterprise of the Year’ award for social enterprises with a revenue of over £500K. “

“This recognition means so much to us – we began with one social enterprise cafe and now we have four across counties Armagh and Down. We also have two very busy self catering residential centres in the Mournes and Armagh City which provide high- quality, affordable group accommodation.”

“Every day, our team works passionately to create incredible opportunities for individuals with a learning disability and/or autism across the Southern Health and Social Care Trust area - and it’s particularly special when that work is acknowledged by others.”

“This award is a whole team achievement, and I’m so proud of the dedication, creativity, and contribution that each person brings to incredABLE. Thank you to Social Enterprise NI for this honour, and to everyone who supports our mission,” he continued.

“As a result of this win, we’ll now be representing Northern Ireland at the Social Enterprise UK Awards and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share our incredABLE story at this distinguished event.”

Mickey Kelly’s Bar ‘Quiz For A Cause’ - huge thanks to everyone who joined the monthly quiz night yesterday! Thanks to your fantastic support, they raised £400 for the Friends of Oaklands Association, bringing the total raised for Charities for 2025 to £980. Mickey Kelly’s are so delighted to support local charities and make a difference together with wonderful community input. Armagh Hockey Club’s 3s and 4s got their seasons off to a winning start over the weekend. The 3s beat Saintfield 3-1 (away) and the 4s beat Newry 1-0 at home. Great start to the season ladies!

Killylea Junior Orange Boys LOL 205 first meeting of the new season took place last night, 20th September, at the Black Headquarters in Loughgall, generously hosted by RBP 26 Killylea.

Superintendent David Morton would like to thank the boys for their excellent behaviour and the way they conducted the meeting. It was also great to see fathers and grandfathers present, witnessing how well the boys can run a meeting.

Thanks was also extended to the Junior Grand Master for joining them, for presenting the Juniors with the award for Best Lodge of the Centenary Year, and for carrying out the election of officers.

A special word of thanks goes to Killylea Peels Chosen Few R.B.P. 26 for hosting such a memorable evening for the Junior Lodge and for providing a lovely tea.

Finally, thank you to Bro./Sir Knight David Livingstone for the informative and enjoyable tour around the Black Headquarters.

City of Armagh U14 12 Letterkenny U14 36
Two hard fought youth matches were played at the Palace Grounds this morning. Next Saturday the league matches start for all youth teams. The U18s play their first match v Letterkenny (away) in the newly formed U18 Division 1 while the U14s and U16s host Monaghan in the regional league.

Everyone was dressed up and ready to to get down on the dance floor last Thursday night (11th) at the incredABLE Black Moon Disco ‘Movie Music Moves’ Night at Armagh City Hotel! An unforgettable night of friendship and fun! There was so much excitement for the disco to get started - as the pictures of the fabulously dressed queue show... and the red carpet was rolled out waiting for the stars! DJ Marko G was spinning the decks and had everyone on the dancefloor in no time! The organisers were delighted to see so many new faces at the Armagh City Hotel as well as all the regular disco dancers! This amazing accessible disco continues to go from strength to strength showing the huge need for safe spaces for adults with additional needs to socialise! At First Presbyterian Church Armagh, you’re in safe hands! On Saturday 13th September, 16 members of the congregation took part in an Emergency First Aid Course delivered by First Aid for Churches Training Service. Every part of the First Armagh church family was represented - from the Choir to PW, Kingdom Kids to the Bowling Team - making sure all areas are now covered with trained First Aiders. A huge well done to everyone who completed the training!

NEWRY Youth Performing Arts (NYPA) proudly marks its 5th anniversary this year with what promises to be an unforgettable adult led production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s legendary rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar. Taking to the stage of The Marketplace Theatre Armagh this week from 10th – 13th September for four shows only, this production will not only showcase the incredible talent within our community but also celebrate the journey of NYPA as a thriving hub for young performers and adults alike. This afternoon (Saturday 6th), Armagh Cricket Club were very privelaged to welcome Cricket Ireland President, Donna Armstrong and her sister Helene, to The Mall as the 1st XI hosted Donaghcloney Mill, in what was to be their penultimate game of the 2025 season. Donna, of course, is the daughter of one of Armagh’s greatest players Lloyd Armstrong who represented the 1st XI between the years of 1946 & 1954. Lloyd made 109 appearances, scoring 2777 runs and taking 320 wickets. More Cricket Club News Here

With a 'BIG' birthday approaching very soon, Rev. Malcolm Kingston (St Mark’sChurch, Armagh) has set himself a challenge to walk 50km (approx 31 miles) today and, if possible, keep going to 50 miles!

At 9.30am this morning he was already at the 14 mile mark!

If you would like to join Malcolm for a mile or 2 this afternoon / evening, you will find him on the following route : The Mall East → Victoria Street → past Deansbridge shop → College Hill → and back to Mall East. He'd be glad of your company!

Malcolm is absolutely blown away by the support he has received so far!! Everyone has been so generous in contributing to his nominated charities: PIPS Hope & Support, Marie Curie & St Mark's, Armagh.

Last week saw the rugby season kick off with games for Armagh Rucgby Club’s 1st XV vs Instonians and 2nd XV vs Lurgan. The Craic'd Pot Coffee House Player of the Match was awarded to Ross Taylor for the 1st XV and Luke McCall for the 2nd XV, for their impressive all round performances.

Great to have John Wilson and his wife from Portland, Oregon, visit the "Museum of Orange Heritage" at Sloan's House this morning. John is a descendant of the famous James Wilson who was at the Battle of the Diamond and obtained the first warrant from James Sloan for Dyan LOL No 1.

On Sunday Collone Young Farmers Club held their annual tractor run in aid of PIPS Hope and Support and Rural Support, despite the wet weather they had a fabulous 106 tractors line the roads of Collone, and thank everyone for their support! A huge thank you to the committee and members who made the day possible, it couldn’t be done without you all. The Club were very happy with the support they received with everyone being so generous - and are delighted to announce that they raised £2585.78 for the charities, this will be added to the total for the year. With all Saturday’s games cancelled due to the inclement weather, the centre of attention fell on Armagh Cricket Club’s 4th XI, who travelled yesterday (Sunday) to do battle with Templepatrick in Ballyclare. The 4’s were situated in joint first position with Dunmurry and a win would see them outright winners of Junior League 9, it would also mean that their opponents would be relegated, so a lot was at stake… They won!, so congratulations to ACC 4th XI.

Photos/Video: Drumderg Loyalists Flute Band

55 members of Drumderg Loyalists Flute Band travelled to London to take part in the Lord Carson Somme Memorial parade on Saturday 20th September.

The Parade was a two mile walk around central London. From Temple tube station the parade route was Embankment → Big Ben → Houses of Parliament → Whitehall Cenotaph → Downing Street → Trafalgar Square → Nelson’s Column. The video clip below is the band passing Horse Guards Parade on Whitehall…

Bandmaster Paul Elliot said - “It was an honour to be invited and the parade was a fantastic experience, and then afterwards to be able to walk up The Mall to visit Buckingham Palace - amazing”

“We got a lovely photograph of the band at the palace gates – and you have to remember, that is only half the band! - we had 55 members travelling to London, but the entire membership is nearly 100.”

As you can see from the photographs (more below), the reception Drumderg received around Buckingham Palace was amazing.

Paul said “There was so much interest from people who wanted us to form up and play outside the palace, but we had resist the temptation to play as we had no 11/1 form handed in - we had to move the crowd back to allow us to get our photograph taken, such was the interest.

“London is such a cosmopolitan city, but we had so many requests for photographs with band members in their uniform. That was really positive experience for the band members. It was a great day, especially for our younger members - to experience parading in England’s capital city. We will all remember it for a long time to come”

In the past Drumderg have also played at at the Menin Gate at Ypres in Belgium and the Ulster Tower at Thiepval in France.

Linzi had a fabulous time and would highly recommend others in the club to take up all the travel opportunities that the YFCU Offer. During her time in Slovenia Linzi attended many workshops and sessions in relation to advocacy, policy making and rural youth participation.

Here’s a taster…

Day 1

Linzi met Team NI (Richard, Dylan, Katie, Emily) at Dublin Airport. After a 5‑hour layover in Zurich where they explored the city, they flew on to Ljubljana, then proceeded to scenic Lake Bled - enjoying dinner and sampling the traditional Bled Cake.

Day 2

The team bonded over a day at Lake Bled. They started with a traditional Slovenian breakfast, visited Bled Castle, picnicked by the lake, and rowed out to the island. In the evening, they stayed in Ljubljana and dined at Oaprta Kuhna with the English team - Linzi tried langoš, her first Slovenian meal.

Day 3

After some morning sightseeing in Ljubljana, the NI team traveled to Novo Mesto, the Rally’s venue. Linzi met her roommates - Gillian from Scotland and Evaline from Switzerland - and took part in icebreakers with participants from 18 countries.

Day 4

Rally officially began with the Opening Ceremony under this year’s theme, "Planting Ideas, Cultivating The Future."Sessions covered youth participation, policy, and advocacy. Linzi joined her Buddy Group (Rosie, Denis, Alise, Eva, Riina) and capped the day with an international buffet.

Day 5

Filled with energizers, group work, and discussions, the day helped Linzi meet many more Europeans. In the evening, her Buddy Group competed in the Farming Games and participated in a quiz, concluding with more social time.

Day 6

Another full day of sessions and team bonding. In the afternoon, Linzi toured the GRM agricultural college, learning about self-sufficient farming. That evening, Team NI performed in the Talent Show, followed by karaoke and general festivities.

Day 7

The Rally Team split into excursion groups. Linzi joined one touring the Dolenjska region, visiting an apple farm run by a former ZSPM president; she sampled produce and explored the Natura 2000 centre. Later they visited the House of the Carniolan honey bee, then ended the day at her host Martin’s farmhouse, enjoying traditional food with his family.

Day 8

Host day with the Žbogar family: Linzi toured their farm, saw a waterfall, and visited mountain pastures where she experienced off-grid alpine life, cheese‑making, and a WWI bunker. Evening back at GRM was for catching up and fun.

Day 9

After the final sessions and a treasure hunt with her Buddy Group, Linzi attended the Closing Ceremony and celebrated with a big end‑of‑Rally party.

Day 10

In the morning, farewells were said. Later Linzi explored Ljubljana with Team NI, enjoying a beer tour before packing for her journey home to Northern Ireland.

Day 11

On the return journey, Linzi had another meal and sightseeing stop in Switzerland before finally arriving home in Northern Ireland.

A cheque for £1000 was presented to Karen Hoy from Pretty in Pink (Breast Cancer) from Killeen LOL 1249. The money was raised from their annual charity dance. The Charlemont Arms Hotel isn’t just a place to stay - it’s a living piece of Armagh’s history… Originally the home of Dr. Atkinson, the building became a hostelry in the 1760s, first known as The Caulfield Arms. In 1763, it was renamed in honour of the newly titled Earl of Charlemont. At one time, towns across Ireland had a Charlemont Arms - but today, ours is the last one standing. Ownership has passed through many hands, each leaving a mark. In the late 1800s, it became Mann’s Hotel and Hydropathic Establishment, offering Turkish baths - a taste of Victorian wellness. But it was in 1934 that the Forster family began their stewardship - a role now carried on by Helen and Judith Forster. Over the decades, they rebuilt after bomb damage in the 1970s, and in 1999 transformed the hotel with major renovations including new rooms, a restaurant, and Turners Wine Bar. Today, The Charlemont Arms Hotel proudly holds a 3-star Northern Ireland Tourist Board rating and continues to blend comfort with deep local heritage.

Richhill Tug Of War Club will be hosting the British & Irish Tug Of War Championships in the grounds of St Luke’s Hospital from 24th to 26th July. Over the last 50 years Richhill have enjoyed success at both outdoor and indoor competitions, winning various medals at World as well as UK and British & Irish levles. A letter dated 4th October 1963, sent to a (then 17 year old) Armagh girl from a friend. This brilliant snippet is about the Beatles coming to Belfast… The letter writer has probably kicked themselves more than once in the years since… (8 shillings and 6 pence = 42½p in 1963 or £12.00 today)

This Morning Primatial Royal Black District Chapter No.4 held it's annual Service of Remembrance for the 16 Sir Knights who were brutally murdered by terrorists. A Poppy Cross Wreath was laid at the memorial tablet on the wall of Armagh Orange Hall. They will always be remembered.

Tomorrow 31st August will mark 50 years from Sir Knight & Bro Joseph Reid was murdered. A special remembrance service will take place in the Temple Presbyterian Church, Keady at 3.00pm.

24th August 2025

A few photos from a very special event held on Sunday 24th August at The Mall. An Armagh Cricket Club Select XI hosted the Lester Select XI in a charity cricket game known as The Jim “Lolly” Lester Cup. The game was in honour of Jim Lester and also his brother Billy Lester who both sadly passed away some years previous.

This evening members of Armagh True Blues Flute Band had the pleasure of handing over a cheque for £1412.98 to Air Ambulance Northern Ireland. This was the proceeds from the Band’s Annual 11th night charity fancy dress parade. The band would like to thank all those that supported them at the event in aid of this very worthy cause!

On Sunday the 31st of August Collone YFC held their annual tractor run in aid of PIPS Hope & Support and Rural Support and despite the wet weather they had an amazing turnout of 106 tractors line the roads of Collone.

The club wishes to thank you the committee and members who made the day possible and such a success.

The club very happy with the support they received with everyone being so generous, the tractor run raise a fabulous £2585.78 for PIPs Hope and Support and Rural Support charities, this will be added to their fundraising total for the year!

Following the tractor run participants were welcomed at the hall for a BBQ, a great way to end a very successful day.

Jubilus Choir Auditions - Wednesday 17th September 2025

Jubilus Choir will be holding auditions for new members. Boys and girls aged 8-16 are welcome to audition for this exciting opportunity.

The choir sing at the Do This in Memory Masses each month in addition to liturgies at Christmas, Easter and other occasions throughout the year.

They rehearse every Wednesday between 3.40pm and 4.40pm.

Auditions will be held in the Synod Hall on Wednesday 17th September between 4.45pm and 6.00pm

St Patrick’s Cathedral Choir are currently recruiting for new members.

The Cathedral Choir rehearse every Thursday evening at 7.30pm in the Synod Hall. The ability to read music is not necessary.

Janet Auld’s sister Iona was admitted to Belfast City Hospital on the 5th February 2024 and after extensive tests she was diagnosed with leukaemia. Iona underwent sessions of chemotherapy and was discharged on the 17th May on medication.

While Iona responded well to the medication her consultant asked if she had any siblings and, if so, would they be willing to donate bone marrow. With no hesitation both Janet and her sister Joanne were tested at The City Hospital. Joanne was a 50% match and Janet was a perfect match.

In February 2025, Janet travelled to The Anthony Nolan Clinic in London for further medical tests and then two weeks later, back in London, she donated stem cells for Iona.

Iona received her transplant in April and she is keeping well.

This September, Janet, along with some family members and friends, is excited to embark on a heartfelt journey. She is aiming to walk 1 mile every day throughout the month - which also happens to be Blood Cancer Awareness Month.

The goal? To raise funds for Anthony Nolan, a world-leading stem cell register, an organization that stands at the forefront of stem cell research and transplants. Thanks to their groundbreaking work, they are currently able to support four patients each day in need of a life-saving transplant.

During her own experience as a stem cell donor, Janet was truly touched by the incredible care and dedication shown by the Anthony Nolan staff.

This initiative is what Janet describes as a small but meaningful way for her to give back to a charity that does so much.

NEWRY Youth Performing Arts (NYPA) proudly marks its 5th Anniversary this year with what promises to be an unforgettable adult led production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s legendary rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar. Taking to the stage of The Marketplace Theatre Armagh this week from 10th – 13th September for four shows only, this production will not only showcase the incredible talent within our community but also celebrate the journey of NYPA as a thriving hub for young performers and adults alike.

Leading the cast is Darragh Burns in the iconic role of Jesus. Darragh, a member of NYPA from its inception in 2020, has grown from strength to strength with the company. His outstanding dedication and talent have earned him a coveted place at the prestigious Emil Dale Academy, where he will begin professional training later this month. This production marks his final performance with NYPA before embarking on the next exciting chapter of his performing arts career.

Since its foundation in 2020, NYPA has provided a creative platform for hundreds of young people and adults across the region, helping them to grow in confidence, develop their skills, and take their first steps into the world of theatre. Over the past five years, NYPA alumni have gone on to train professionally, perform on major stages, and inspire the next generation of local talent.

“This milestone production is more than just a show,” said NYPA Producer and Founder Roisin Fearon. “It is a celebration of five years of passion, creativity, and community spirit. Our primarily adult cast have poured their hearts into this show and we are incredibly proud of how far they have come. Seeing students like Darragh take the next step to professional training reminds us exactly why we do what we do.”

Packed with unforgettable songs like I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Gethsemane, and Superstar, this high-energy production promises to be a powerful and moving theatrical experience for musical theatre and rock music fans alike.

Marking five years of NYPA, with more exciting shows to come later this year, this production of Jesus Christ Superstar at The Marketplace Theatre Armagh, celebrates local talent, past achievements, and bright futures on stage.

The return of this much loved annual event was held from Monday 11th to Saturday 16th August at the City of Armagh High School - a fantastic week of music, fun and friendships.

The summer school offered a unique opportunity for individuals of all ages, from 6 to 74 in fact, to come together and form two bands based on their playing abilities - The Sterling Band, conducted by Mark Bousie, and The Sovereign Band, led by Michael Fowles, welcomed participants who represented various bands from across the province, Ireland, and Mainland UK.

Throughout the week, attendees engaged in morning warm-ups, sectional practices, and full band rehearsals. Additionally, participants were treated to an impressive performance by the Foden's tutors, inspiring them to reach for new heights in their musical journey.

Over the course of the week, players enhanced their musical skills through a diverse and challenging repertoire, including pieces such as "Prismatic Light" by Alan Fernie, "Trailblaze" by Geoff Richards, "The Seal Lullaby" by Eric Whitacre (arranged by Alan Fernie), "Neverland" by Christopher Bond, a musical tribute to Roald Dahl titled "The World’s Greatest Storyteller" (arranged by Philip Harper), and Shakira's "Waka-Waka" (arranged by Jonathan Bates).

The Summer School Spectacular Concert, held at the Armagh Old Boys Band Music Centre on the final Saturday afternoon, showcased the hard work and enthusiasm of all participants - who performed to a captivated audience. Both the Sterling and Sovereign Bands delivered outstanding performances during this event.

Awards were presented to celebrate achievements throughout the course, including:

• Brasses Plaque - Best Attending Band: Third Carrickfergus Band

• Armagh Old Boys Cup - Best Youth: Peter McCormick (St Marks Silver Band)

• Dungannon Plaque - Best Adult: Wesley Thompson (1st Old Boys)

• Poyntzpass Trophy - Loyalty and Commitment to the Course: Jacklin Bingham (Third Carrickfergus Band)

• Foden's Band Cup - Best Overall: Harry Loyld (1st Old Boys)

Armagh Old Boys Silver Band would like to thank the wonderful and dedicated team of Foden's Tutors: Mark Wilkinson, Mark Bousie, Richard Poole, Shaun Farrington, Gary Curtin, Jonathan Bates, Stewart Baglin, Michael Fowles, and Anthony Mann.

Thanks also to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Council who assisted in the funding of the summer school.

Finally… well done and thank you to all participants of the 21st Summer School.

Collone Young Farmers Club member Harry Chambers recently went on a memorable 2 week exchange to Finland as part of the YFCU Exchange Programme.

Harry thoroughly enjoyed his time in Finland and would encourage other Young Farmers to take advantage of all exchange opportunities that come their way!

Landing in Finland on Tuesday 24th June, Harry was greeted by his hosts Lidia and Flavo before visiting Helsinki that evening and having dinner with Johanna.

On Wednesday it was a tour of the 4H Headquarters before going on a sight-seeing tour around the local area and met Aimee, a young farmer who was on exchange from Scotland!

On Thursday Harry travelled to his host’s farm where he would stay for the next few days. Here he had the opportuinity to meet lots of local people and Peeka’s aunt and uncle from Switzerland.

Harry helped Peeka deliver hay to some of his customers and got to experience a range of farming tasks in Finland before attending a baseball match on Friday evening, which was very enjoyable.

On Saturday Harry visited Peeka’s 220 hectare forest and helped him with some replanting before attending an iffy event in the evening where he met another young farmer on exchange - Mike who was visiting from Taiwan.

Harry visited a number of different farms when he was in Finland including a dairy farm which had 3 robots.

Harry also got to help with tedding on his host’s farm, where he was happy to be involved.

On Wednesday 2nd July Harry made the 10 hour journey to his second host family. Here he particularly enjoyed shearing sheep - just one of many things he did on their farm during his time there.

To finish his time in Finland Harry travelled back to Helsinki to take in a few sights before travelling back home.

Harry enjoyed experiencing what life and farming is like in Finland and is looking forward to other exchange opportunities that may present themselves in the future.

Armagh Special Olympics Swimming Club had an amazing evening at Armagh City Hotel celebrating their athletes’ achievements. 2024/2025 has been an eventful year for the club, with galas in Lisburn, Craigavon and Liverpool. Lots of PB’s, first time achievements, parties, fundraising events and plenty of craic!! The club would like to say… “To the amazing parents, guardians, and volunteers of our Special Olympics swimming club - thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Your unwavering support, encouragement, and time make all the difference. Whether you’re cheering from the sidelines, helping organize events, or simply showing up with a smile, you are the true champions behind our athletes’ success. Because of you, our swimmers are not only becoming stronger athletes, but more confident individuals. Together, you help make our club a place of growth, joy and true team spirit. We appreciate you more than words can say!”

On Saturday 12th April 2025 a team of Orange Women, Men, Juniors, family and friends from Killylea District No 7 too on the challenge to cycle 53 miles from Killylea Village Co. Armagh to The Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail (Stairway to heaven) in Co. Fermanagh where they then took on the 6km walk (and the 450 wooden steps) to the top of the mountain. Air Ambulance NI was their chosen charity and the total raised was £4255.00. Well done to all wo took part… and they would like to say a big thank you to everyone that supported and donated towards the charity - it is greatly appreciated.

We are TOTALLY overwhelmed by the generosity & support we received on Thursday night… So far we have collected over £35,000 for Macmillan in Northern Ireland... & we are still counting!! We were delighted to make a presentation to them this morning in St Matthew’s and to share in their commissioning service this afternoon in the Cathedral. Please continue to pray for them as they begin their new ministry in our parish.

The City of Armagh RFC 150th anniversary Gala Ball took place in the Armagh City Hotel last Saturday evening. 650 guests attended the black tie event, with some travelling from as far away as the USA. Bryan Habana, Rob Kearney and Su Carty were the special VIP guests with MC Tommy Bowe conducting a brilliant Q&A session. The club were also delighted to have attending, the IRFU President, Declan Madden and the Ulster Branch President, Lawrence Rocke. The charity partner for the evening was the IRFU Charitable Trust and everyone was honoured with the presence of the chairman, Michael Wheelan. Congratulations to Armagh City Hotel’s General Manager Henk Compier, who accepted a Certificate of Achievement on behalf of the hotel after completing Tourism Northern Ireland’s Sustainable Tourism Business Programme. This recognition reflects the ongoing efforts to align with McKeever Hotels’ Sustainability Policy - which guides all seven properties within the group’s commitment to greener, more responsible hospitality. The final session was hosted at the hotel and the staff were privelaged to stand alongside other brilliant local businesses taking real steps towards positive change.

After Saturdays very successful tournament Armagh Hockey Club presented a very special Lifetime Achievement Award to none other than the head organiser himself… Jason Whitford. Jason has been involved with the club since it began and had roles in almost every capacity from playing, managing, organising, volunteering and most recently being the Men’s match secretary. The club is indebted to Jason, especially the men’s side for his commitment and services throughout the years. Jason was presented with a cut glass memento as a token of the club’s appreciation.

Two players were added to Armagh Cricket Club’s prestigious 100 Cap Club this past weekend. Matthew Wright was awarded his cap on Friday 30th May and Ben Mackey was awarded his on Saturday 31st May. The club’s 100 Cap is awarded to players who, through the illustrious 163 year history of the club, have appeared for the 1st XI 100 times (or more). Matthew and Ben are the 55th and 56th players respectively to receive the award.

Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Kyle Savage hosted a Civic Reception at The Palace, Armagh for represntatives of County Armagh and County Down Junior Orange Lodges to recognise the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Junior Grand Lodge (in 2024) and the 100th anniversary of the Junior Orange Association of Ireland in 2025. Also present were Alderman Gareth Wilson, Alderman Paul Berry and Councillor Keith Ratcliffe.

Armagh Observatory marked a significant historic milesotone today - 230 years of daily weather observations, with readings having been taken every single day since 14th July 1795.

To celebrate, the Observatory hosted a special gathering of scientists and members of the public at it’s historic meteorological enclosure (“MET cage”) this morning, followed by a Family Fun Day at the Planetarium.

Meteorological measurements at Armagh actually began in December 1794, but were recorded less frequently. An unbroken sequence of daily weather readings staried in July 1795, making The Observatory’s one of the longest continuous climate records in the British Isles.

“Reaching 230 years of uninterrupted weather records is an extraordinary achievement” said Dr Kerem Osman Çubuk (Astronomy Communicator, AOP).

“This archive is one of the oldest and most consistent climate datasets globally, critical for understanding long-term climate trends, planning our futures, and celebrating centuries of dedicated observations.”

Since 1836, rainfall has also been recorded daily; humidity data (wet bulb) from 1838; and maximum and minimum daily temperatures from 1844.

The Observatory’s instrumentation has evolved over time from primitive thermometers and barometers to a Stevenson Screen (installed in 1865) and a modern Met Office standard automatic weather station which was added in 2018. The Observatory was also officially recognised as a WMO Centennial Observing Station in 2018.

Those attending today’s event were invited to view the historic meteorological instruments and learn about the imprtance of The Observatory’s unique legacy of continuous observation. The celebrations continued with a Family Fun Day at the Planetarium.

Visitors also enjoyed access to Planetarium exhibits, the sensory room and Dome Shows as part of a full day programme of engaging and educational experiences.

Monday 14th July 2025 has highlighted Armagh Observatory’s heritage and extraordinary scientific contribution as well as underscoring it’s vital ongoing mission: to connect people with climate, space, and the wonder of scientific discovery.

On Sunday evening 6th July, First Presbyterian Church Armagh were pleased to welcome Armagh District LOL No. 5 for their Annual Divine Service. It was a joy to join together in worship with members of the District and their guests.
